My journey with ASL began at the University of New Mexico. I was about to finish my first degree in Criminology, and I needed to take a foreign language class in order to fulfil my degree requirements. I took Intro to ASL and began interacting with members of the D/deaf community. I realized that my calling was not Criminology, but interpreting. I graduated with my first degree and went back to school for 3 more years to get my degree in Signed Language Interpreting. I am currently enrolled in the Certificate in Healthcare Interpreting Program through RIT with a graduation date in June 2021. As a part of the VIIS leadership team I assist with interpreter recruitment, outreach, social media, contracts, interpreting, and anything else that might come up. VIIS is a special place to work.
