Vermont – BEI-Basic

Hi! My name is Sierra Mangum and I am a B.E.I. Certified Interpreter. My journey with ASL began in 2017 when I was living in Texas and my daughter was a year old. I was attending college to become a Dental Hygienist when I saw the school offered ASL classes. We had been using baby signs since my daughter was 3 months old, so I decided to take the class so I could continue learning more signs. I took ASL 1 and immediately fell in love with the Community and culture. I quickly decided to change my major and graduated from the Interpreter Training Program at Lone Star College- CyFair with Honors in 2020 during the global shutdown. In 2021, my husband, our daughter, and I packed up everything we owned, along with our 3 animals, and arrived in beautiful Vermont on May 1st, 2021. Three weeks later, I was informed that I passed my B.E.I. Basic Performance Exam and earned my Certification! I began working with Vancro in June 2021 and feel I have found my permanent home here in the D/deaf and Interpreting Communities of Vermont. I am currently working on my NIC and hope to add it to my resume soon!
