Hi! My name is Rae Heller. I identify as a White, Jewish, cis female, hearing interpreter. In November 2020 I moved from Boston, MA to Brattleboro, VT. I have been working as a full time freelance interpreter since 2016, and became certified in January 2020. I work in an array of settings including but not limited to: medical, mental health, post-secondary education, ISP’s, MA state agency trainings and workshops, 12 step meetings, art settings, yoga and meditation classes or trainings, social settings, weddings, grief support groups, and more. Lastly, I want to add my “Top 3 Interpreting Values”. Time is limited within this video of course! So these are just a snapshot of what I value within this profession: 1. Dismantling White Supremacy. 2. Open-process interpreting and collaboration in the interpreting process. And 3. an open heart and flexible mind relating to giving and receiving feedback. Feedback can include how I can better match language preference, do better interpersonally, and especially relating to potential and probable racist or oppressive decisions and/or comments I might make in the future. I am human; I will make mistakes. Please know I am here to learn, integrate feedback, and do better. Looking forward to meeting you all!
